Tarja Kallio
Finland
I am Tarja Kallio from Pyhätunturi in Pelkosenniemi. I qualified as a conformation show judge in 2018, and I currently qualified to judge breeds in groups 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10.
My own breeds are the Grey Norwegian Elkhound, the Jämthund, the White Swedish Elkhound, and the Small Munsterlander. Together with my husband, I breed under the kennel name Tunturijärven. As my breeds suggest, I practice bear and moose hunting with elk dogs, as well as forest grouse hunting with my pointing dog. Here in the north we have vast areas suitable for these activities, and the wildlife population is still in good condition. We also have a Tibetan Terrier at home — our little “useless one,” as it doesn’t hunt anything except for treats, but it makes an excellent companion dog. I am actively involved in the Finnish Grey Norwegian Elkhound Association and the Finnish Pointing Dog Club, where I work in the conformation committees as a breed educator and breed inspector. I also participate in local hunting clubs, where I serve as a judge and trial official in moose barking trials, as well as a show and judge secretary. At dog shows, you may also see me working as a ring steward.
