Susanne Wendell

Finland

I am Susanne Wendelle and been interested in dogs since my own “puppyhood”. When I was child, we had mongrels at home ja when I was teenager I had a German Shepherd. My first Keeshond was born in 1975 and get to know this breed was part of my life during many years. Since my family did boating, this breed was really made for that. During my marriage and during the growth of my four kids, I familiarized myself with Keeshond and its breeding. I did have contact with breeders all over the world to get as more information of the breed as possible. I did even have the possibility to see pedigrees of dogs, that were used in breeding in the beginning of the last century. It was good to get to know the lines that made the basis our own Keeshonds in Finland and this was very useful later, when I acted as a Breeding Consultant of the breed club. My first litter was born in 1978 and I kept a female called Solvarg. My prefix is Solvargens and besides Keeshond I have bred Cesky Terriers, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Border Collies and Dachshunds. In 21st century I started to breed Klein- and Mittelspitzes. At the moment I have four Mittelspitzes, one Kleinspitz and one Keeshond, Junior World Winner 2014 Solvargens Ymer. By profession I am groomer and have had the possibility to get to know many different breeds. Still I feel Keeshond and Spitz-breeds are closest to me. I became show judge in 1993 and I have only few breeds to judge. One reason for this is that I want to get to know the breeds I judge as well as possible. The other reason is that I need time for my 10 grandchildren and living in archipelago. It might be surprising to know, that I am interested in speedway. During last few year I have had the possibility to judge my own breeds in specialties both in Finland and Sweden. I am looking forward to my judging appointment at the festive Finnish Kennel Club show and maybe there will be dogs of my own breeds that I have not yet judged – so exciting.
