Åge Gjetnes became involved with the sport of dogs in 1978 when he got a Cocker spaniel that he showed to his champion title. For the last 40 years, he has been a successfull breeder of Afghan Hounds, having bred 42 champions, breeding on a very limited basis. At present he has a newly crowned international champion bitch at home who represents a six generation International champion bitch line. Afghans bred by Mr. Gjetnes have won top awards at all major shows in Scandinavia, as well as in several European countries and the United States. Whippets has formerly been a big part of his life, they where shown with success, including six times Whippet of the year. His involvement as co-owner and handler of top winning Greyhounds,Miniature Poodles and Griffons has brought lots of joy. Three of the most successful Greyhounds became top dog all breeeds, 2001, 2003 and 2013 in Norway. In 2015 he won the Utility group at Crufts with his homebred Poodle. His international judging appointments have taken him to Australia, South-Africa, United States, Canada and many European countries. He has judged twice at Westminster Kennel Club. In 2022 he judged Deerhounds and Sloughis at Crufts, and Best In Show at The Houndshow. In 2026 he again judged at Crufts, this time Salukis. In 2027 Mr. Gjetnes will judge the Hound group at Crufts.
